Today, Chunk Works was announced to be part of the European Blockchain Sandbox, which aims to address the regulatory challenges of blockchain/distributed ledger technology and ensure optimal data security for EU companies and consumers. Chunk Works distinguishes itself with its focus on quantum security, and data protection without using cryptocurrency.

Chunk Works is proud to have been selected as part of the first cohort of the European Blockchain Sandbox, among reputable parties. Elevating “blockchain” beyond cryptocurrencies, it uses distributed ledger technology (DLT) to guarantee data confidentiality, integrity, and availability. Being at the forefront of innovation with its use of DLT, there are important topics about distributed technology and privacy that require discussion with regulators. This is to ensure that companies and consumers in the EU benefit from the increased data security that distributed technologies can provide. The company is looking forward to the regulatory dialogues within this sandbox.

The DLT-based Universal Security Layer (USL) was created by Chunk Works in response to the constantly changing threats in cybersecurity. USL is designed for adaptability, not only to address today’s data security challenges but also to anticipate future threats, such as those posed by quantum computing. With additional features like its autonomous recovery mechanisms and federated authentication, it’s redefining what it means to be secure in a digital world.

Universal Security Layer is a future-proof, quantum-secure framework built on distributed ledger technology. It connects devices across different platforms—such as on-premise servers, public and private clouds, IoT devices, and third-party tools—into a single, secure private network. Designed as a white-label solution to integrate with existing infrastructures and standards, it combines classical and post-quantum algorithms for a smooth transition to quantum-secure encryption. With its autonomous data recovery system, users can be confident that their data is always there when they need it. Organizations struggling with various authentication methods across different systems will also appreciate the unified federated authentication experience.

About Chunk Works

Chunk Works provides organizations with the tools they need to retain control over their data in a safe, reliable, and cost-effective way. Its goal is to contribute to a more secure and equitable digital future because data breaches and hacks are no longer a question of “if” but “when”.

Its flagship product, Universal Security Layer is designed to deploy across existing infrastructure, including on-premise servers, public and private clouds, IoT devices, third-party tools, and even legacy platforms. It is a white-label solution designed to protect existing systems and data infrastructures from (quantum-computing) attacks.

About European Blockchain Regulatory Sandbox

The European Blockchain Regulatory Sandbox for innovative use cases involving Distributed Ledger Technologies (DLT) is an initiative of the European Commission. The sandbox establishes a pan-European framework for regulatory dialogues to increase legal certainty for innovative blockchain technology solutions. Blockchain and other Distributed Ledger Technologies are innovative developments and are deployed across industry sectors such as energy & utilities, education, healthcare, mobility, finance & insurance, and logistics & supply chains.

The European Blockchain Sandbox has been set up and is being operated to facilitate the dialogue between regulators and innovators for private and public sector use cases. Legal advice and regulatory guidance will be provided in a safe and confidential environment. The dialogues will be held across industry sectors and geographic regions, which will help to identify and communicate best practices in the interest of the wider EU/EEA blockchain community. The sandbox is open to use cases based on any blockchain infrastructure.
